Radiation Oncology Institute | Coastal Cancer Treatment Center

About This Project

This medical treatment facility occupies a previously unused space in an existing office building, surrounded by residential neighborhoods. The building is residential in character and the modifications needed to the building, to house the two radiation treatment rooms, required the remediation of architectural and structural elements; without disrupting the original architecture. The vault walls and primary shielding is entirely contained within the Spanish tile roof and stucco walls. The Cyberknife facility is the first one constructed in the area and required close contact with the equipment manufacturer and the owner of an associated facility in Miami, Florida. High-end furniture and finishes give a residential impression to the interiors, avoiding a clinical feeling for the patients in an otherwise high-tech, state of the art, medical facility.
